Farmers Markets

Well the farmers market scene is winding down.  We are now done with the Milwaukee Farmers Market at Beans and Barley.  It was a fun one.  The last Andersonville Farmers Market is tomorrow and I am sad yet incredibly relieved to be done with that one.  Andersonville is a rainbow flag waving town with culture and coolness seeping from the brick buildings.  We had a great time working our little booth there.  The first test market that we had I had several people run up very excited about Kombucha being there, and then far more people that had no idea what Kombucha is.  Farmers markets for the most part is a way to get the word out about what Kombucha is and it gives people a chance to try it out.  It also allows people to try a different Kombucha than what they are used to.  They get a fresh taste of Kombucha.  Some people taste it for the first time and thier face lights up in joy and delightment and they buy a bottle on the spot, so excite for something to add to thier health regimen that they like.  Others come to the tent take one sip and say " I hate it"  and walk away dumping thier cup on the ground.  I have regular visitors such as a little girl who comes up just for a little taste each week.  They never buy any, but she's like 3 and she just wants a sip.  We sell kits and SCOBY's as well.  I sometimes get the odd person who grills me with all kinds of "business" questions.  We even had an offer to buy our recipes.  No dice guys.  Besides, our recipes are in our heads not written down and are going to be passed traditionally.  We are pleased to educate but man we're not gonna just hand over our tecnique to just any old shmo off the street.

The east Side Farmers Market, our very first and home base market.  It's small, and quaint, but it has everything you need in one little half block of space.  We began there last June of 08.  We had been thinking "hey let's just sell some booch at the Farmers Market.  That couldn't be that hard."  So we began looking into it.  Hey......you mean we have to be a real business with a kitchen and licencing and all that.....oh.  We learned quickly and not so quickly what we needed to accomplish.  There is a lot.  For all you Kombucha wannabees I recommend having a partner that you love, respect and are ready to spend many, many, many hours, days, months, weeks, years with.  It is an investment of your time, health, life, love and everything.  Like any business really.  It doesn't happen over night and it's not easy.  We just make it look that way.

There is one more East Side Farmers market left!  That will be next Tuesday from 4-7pm at Ingersoll and Main in Madison, Wisconsin IF the weather is not like it is today.  There was supposed to be one today, but due to weather and the Komucha family being under the weather, it didn't happen.  However, we will continue to have specialty flavors, scoby's and Kits available until next years Farmers Market at our kitchen.  We will be having a pickup from 4-6 on Wednesdays at 407 S. Few St.  For you regulars we have a punch card system where if you buy 10 1/2 gallons through us directly you get your 11th FREE!  Thanks again for all of your support and we'll see ya soon!!
